Abstract
Nocardiosis infection may be localized to the skin, or it may involve the lungs, disseminating to virtually any organ. Sulfonamides alone or trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole are drug of choice in treating infections caused by Nocardia asteroides. On
this
paper, we are reporting a case of nocardiosis in a 41 year old female patient with nephrotic syndrome. Radiological examination showed pneumonia with multiple chest wall abscesses. Nocardia asteroides is isolated in the culuture for sonoguided
aspirate
of the abscesses and then demonstrated resistance to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. Treatment with ceftriaxone and amikacin in conjunction with surgical drainage resulted in improvement of the infection.
